Description
The RA1216 family combines analog input, analog output, and digital I/O in an intelligent remote data acquisition pod. The base unit communicates with a host computer through an optically isolated, half-duplex RS-485 interface. An on-board microcontroller and local memory support data collection close to sensors and equipment.
Analog Inputs and Signal Conditioning
The 12-bit successive-approximation converter accepts sixteen single-ended or eight differential inputs. Programmable gain and offset allow channels to be configured for different signal spans. The voltage-input model offers spans from 25 mV to 5 V, with bipolar operation available through the offset circuitry. Inputs include protection to 200 VDC.
Choose RA1216 for voltage inputs, RA1216T/C for up to seven thermocouples with cold-junction sensing, RA1216R for up to eight three-wire RTDs, RA1216I for up to eight 4-20 mA transmitter inputs, or RA1216B/C for eight quarter-bridge strain-gage completion circuits. Thermocouple break-detection resistors can be specified when ordering.
Voltage and Current Outputs
Three independent 12-bit D/A channels provide voltage and current outputs simultaneously. Each voltage output is programmable for 0-5 V or 0-10 V. The 4-20 mA outputs require a user-supplied compliance voltage of 5.5-30 V.
Digital Control and Remote Installation
Seven digital lines are individually programmable as inputs or open-collector outputs. Outputs support user-supplied voltages up to 50 VDC and sink up to 350 mA per line, subject to a combined 650 mA limit. Inductive-kick suppression is provided. A watchdog timer resets the controller following processor or supply faults.
The NEMA 4 enclosure includes internal screw terminals and a cable gland for field wiring. Separate supplies power the local circuitry and isolated serial interface to maintain isolation. The U-, WM-, E-, and S-prefix packages provide USB, wireless, Ethernet, and RS-232 host connectivity respectively.
