Description
The IDO-xx series provides 16, 32, or 48 individually optically isolated solid-state digital outputs for ISA bus computers. P-channel FET switches control user-supplied load voltages from 5 to 60 VDC, combining fast switching with the long service life of solid-state output devices.
Individually Isolated Outputs
Each output is isolated from the computer and from the other outputs. When an output is enabled, its FET switches the external supply voltage to the output pin. When disabled, the output returns to the return-line voltage. Outputs are at zero volts during power-up and computer reset.
The output drivers support up to 1 A continuous or 2 A pulsed per channel. Cable ratings must also be considered: some ribbon cables limit current to 0.5 A. Diodes provide inductive-spike protection.
Connection and Installation
Output wiring connects through 50-pin ribbon-cable headers on the card. A protective cover helps prevent accidental contact with user voltages, and a strain-relief bar secures cables as they exit the mounting bracket. The full-size ISA card occupies six consecutive I/O address bytes, with one byte for each group of eight outputs on a fully populated card.
Optional STA-50 screw-terminal assemblies simplify field wiring; use one assembly for each group of 16 outputs. CAB50F-6 cables provide a six-foot connection, with other lengths available as CAB50F-xx. Optional ZTR-xx shielded protective jackets help protect ribbon cables from sharp component leads and possible short circuits.
Model Selection
Choose IDO-16 for 16 outputs, IDO-32 for 32 outputs, or IDO-48 for 48 outputs. The 16- and 32-output models are partially populated versions of the same full-size card.
Isolation
The optical isolators are rated for at least 2,000 Vrms, but this component rating is not the isolation rating of the installed card and cabling. The legacy specification states 60 VDC isolation for CE certification. Actual system isolation depends on cabling, pin and PCB spacing, humidity, dust, and other environmental conditions. Conformal coating for higher isolation-voltage tolerance is available on request.
Modified-COTS (MCOTS) Customization
ACCES can tailor any standard product to your precise requirements — electrical, mechanical, firmware, environmental, or connector-level. Common MCOTS options include alternate I/O ranges, isolation enhancements, firmware changes, private labeling, conformal coating, extended temperature operation, ruggedized enclosures, and military-grade components. If this product is close but not a perfect fit, our engineering team can deliver a rapid-turn MCOTS variant with minimal NRE and dependable, Made-in-USA quality.
